Research

Feinstein International Center faculty carry out research in Sudan, Ethiopia, Uganda and Nepal seeking to understand the economic and social complexity of the drivers and consequences of crises in those countries. At the global level research is carried out into the evolving nature of the humanitarian aid system, foreign policy and military interventions in complex emergencies and civil strife.

Food Policy and Applied Nutrition program faculty are engaged in research on the impact of food aid programs and program exit strategies, and on the quality of food aid commodities distributed in emergency and non-emergency settings. Current research in Haiti is assessing the effects of a tailored food basket targeted to extremely vulnerable HIV-affected groups. A joint program with the Feinstein International Center is tracking long-term changes in the livelihood patterns and food security of populations affected by protracted crisis and conflict.

The Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy faculty conduct research on peace-building, the conduct of war and counterterrorism, and the intersections between development, conflict resolution, and human rights and humanitarianism. A joint research program with the Feinstein Center researches the financial resilience of crisis-affected populations and microfinance interventions.
